Fight The Power!

I spent most of the day today at The British Museum. Check that...I spent the half the afternoon getting lost and trying to find my way to the museum. The other half was at the actual museum. It was as easy as going right instead of left when I exited Holborn Tube Station. I think I was in a daze from trying to look up the very long and very steep escalator in the tube station. It made me dizzy.

But I digress, I felt a little out of place in Holborn...a lot of bankers and lawyers strolling about. Maybe they weren't, but there were an awful lot of suits. I assumed lawyers because I eventually stumbled upon the Royal Courts of Justice nearby.

A few streets up, I stumbled upon Covent Garden Market. Took a look in a few shops. The London Transport Museum is there, but it is closed for renos. I stopped in the London Transport Museum and bought some little things.

Lots more walking later...I ended up at Cambridge Circus. At The Palace Theatre, they're getting ready for the run of Spamalot...a musical based on the Monty Python film (in the adverts it says "ripped off from") The Holy Grail.

Several footsteps later, I finally made my way to The British Museum.

It's free to enter the museum and view most of the exhibits, and has been since the 1700s. They ask for a small £3 donation or more. I took a lot of photos in the museum (including the one at the top of this posting), but it doesn't even scrape the surface of what's in there. Many treasures that the British have collected at the four corners of the world. Some of which have been returned to their rightful owners. Here's a few shots from inside.

A thought crossed my mind at the museum...particularly in the Greece and Rome exhibits. Most of the male statues are missing arms and their penii (is that the correct plural for penis) are broken off. Noticing this, I thought "this is what women have been doing to men for CENTURIES!"

After the museum, I headed by cramped, hot, rush-hour tube in search of The Tower of London and Tower Bridge. I had to change trains at Bank station which I thought meant a walk to Monument station to get the district line. But I went the wrong way AGAIN and ended up walking too far west and ended up at Cannon Street station. Then I missed the tube station there entirely and wandered aimlessly into the British Rail station instead. I swear, by the end of this trip I will have mastered two things: 1) The London Transport System 2) Looking right THEN left (instead of vice versa) before crossing the street.

Upon successfully boarding the TUBE at Cannon Street station, I went the two stations to Tower Hill. Finally...

After another day on my feet, I headed back...but also made plans for tomorrow. Tomorrow I meet up with my friend Dominic who is switching a game show at Pinewood Studios and has invited me along to sit in the audience and possibly the Gallery (control room). Thats one of the things I have in store tomorrow.
