The Church and The Da Vinci Code - Enough Already
As the film version of Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" gets closer to being released the Catholic church is getting louder and louder about it's opposition to the film. Where were they when the book was released? Why weren't they as loud then?
For the last month or so, every day, I have seen some sort of story about the Vatican calling for a ban on the film or encouraging Christians not to see it. Now in a news article I read today, they want Christians to take Dan Brown, his publisher and the film producers to court. Cardinal Francis Arinze, a Papal candidate from last year, said that taking them to court is an option "in order to get the other person to respect the rights of others."
Is it not Dan Brown's right to write what he pleases? Is there maybe some TRUTH to what he wrote? Is that why the church is so defensive?
His is a work of fiction! How about "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" that is a non-fiction book that details the theories referenced in "The Da Vinci Code?" They should be more upset with the two authors of that book. Not just Dan Brown and the film makers (Imagine Entertainment).
Fundamentalist Muslims tend to be the same way. They see a cartoon in a Danish newspaper that depicts Mohammed in a way they don't like and they go on a violent rampage. Do they honestly believe that you can take them all seriously when, by their actions, they basically prove that there is some truth in that cartoon?
