Leaving On A Jet...Oh Wait. I'm Driving!

I'm gearing up for a little (12 hour) drive from Vancouver to Edmonton to see my family and friends there.
There's a bad habit I've had for years when I go on a trip of any kind. For some reason, I procrastinate for weeks sometimes months from carrying out various mundane tasks. Then, when I have a trip planned, I use the last few days leading up to my departure to carry them all out. Like it's absolutely necessary to get all these things done before I leave. Am I the only one who works this way?
It's like these humdrum chores weren't important enough to be done right away. But, for some stupid reason I think "I'll be breaking from my day-to-day routine...oh god." Then I rush around doubling the number of errands when I don't have the time to do them all.
Then on top of that, I get asked to do even more projects by others, adding to the pile. Ah, I'll do those when I get back.

I Hate SUVs!

When are people going to learn? After Hurricane Katrina and the strains that put on the oil and gasoline supply. Now Hurricane Rita is now heading towards Texas and everyone in a gas guzzling pickup truck and SUV is getting the hell out of Dodge. (No pun intended) I swear 60% of the vehicles stuck on that highway are SUVs!
I hate them, and the people that drive them. Generally, the people that buy them do so for the status of owning a big vehicle AND they don't know how to drive them! It's selfish and materialistic. They're also hoarding the majority of the fuel we have left.
I walk to work every day and leave my car at home. Live closer and drive a small car ONLY when you need to. Sounds pretty considerate to me. Many people who drive say they "need" to drive. What a load of SHIT that is.
If the assumptions of Journalist Richard Heinberg are correct, we will run out of affordable fossil fuel far sooner than the official projections. SUV drivers are just accelerating this trend and for what? To show people you have money? Spend it on something else and drive a car you can actually manoever!
These people just piss me off. Especially since I almost get hit by an SUV driver on the phone at least once a week!
I have it in my right mind to key every SUV I see. Fuck them. Man I can't wait for teleportation.

Racial Profiling During A Crisis????

A co-worker pointed out something to me today. On Yahoo News, some photographs taken in New Orleans. One is a white woman neck high in flood waters carrying a food that the caption describes she found in a local store. The other photo is a black man, also in neck high water carrying a food with a caption saying he "looted" from a local store.
This is disgusting. What's the matter with these people? Even in a time of crisis, someone can't take their racial blinders off.
Here's an article that may explain why.
